The collection team at Bondora had another month of increased missed payment recoveries, albeit at a minimal rate. However, the total amount of cash recovered took a dip when compared to June, showing a divergence in these two trends.

All told, 72,492 missed payments were recovered, which is a very slight 0.06% increase from the previous month. The only recovery category to decline was in-house collections, which fell by 0.9% to 12,524 total missed payments recovered. Meanwhile, the only country to see an increase in payment recoveries was Estonia, where there was a 1.6% increase in recoveries.

Recoveries by count of loans – July 2021

Cash recoveries

Even amidst an increase in missed payment recoveries and a 19.2% increase in cash recovered last month, July was a different story for cash recoveries. A total of €884,672 was recovered in July, down 8.8% from June. Bucking this month’s trend was default and court recoveries, which were higher by 4.3% on the month and now account for 15.4% of all cash recovered. Meanwhile, bailiff cash recovered was down by 10.6% to €725,524.

Recoveries by cash flow – July 2021

Yearly recovery rate

The yearly recovery rate for Bondora over the past eight-year period was steady, falling only 0.7% to 42.2%. The rate for 2021 recoveries was down by 4.4% to 53.2. In contrast, recovery rates for the oldest years had an upward trend:

2014: +0.2%

2015: +0.3%

2016: +0.3%

Recovery rate – July 2021

Recoveries by country

All three origination countries saw their recovery rates fall for 2021. Returns for Spanish originations fell by 12.2% to 90.4%. Estonian origination returns were still strong, coming in at 72.5%. Estonian rates for 2020 increased by 0.03% to 64.6%. 2020 Finnish recovery rates were also higher by 0.7% to 23.9%.

Recovery rate by country – July 2021

A trend divergence

In July, there was a divergence in the Bondora recovery market. While the number of missed payment recoveries grew slightly to 0.06%, the amount of cash recovered, on the other hand, fell by 8.8%. This is an interesting statistical trend to watch and see how it will change in the future.

You can always view missed payment recoveries and all other Bondora data at any time.
