Visa has added another p2p partnership to its\nportfolio. The Visa Direct payments platform has partnered with TransferWise<\/a> to offer customers\nthe ability to move money to debit cards in real-time from anywhere in the\nworld. Visa Direct has already been used to process 2 billion transactions in\n2019 alone, a number that is expected to grow with this partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Bill Sheley, global head of Visa\nDirect, there is still a need for real-time payments in a large part of the world:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTechnology\nis bringing us closer together, yet there are still challenges that it hasn\u2019t\nsolved when it comes to individuals and small businesses moving money around\nthe world,\u201d said Sheley. \u201cThe TransferWise collaboration is the latest addition\nto Visa\u2019s efforts to help our clients enable individuals and small businesses\nto send and receive international payments quickly and securely by utilizing\nthe power of Visa Direct.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This partnership builds on previous moves by\nVisa. Earlier this year, the company purchased Earthport<\/a>, a cross-border payment\nand ACH provider. This acquisition gave Visa even more reach to consumers and\nbusinesses to send and receive money through their own bank accounts using\nVisa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Zopa, the British peer-to-peer lending firm,\nis on its way to becoming the newest challenger bank. The company received a \u00a3130 million investment<\/a> to move forward with\nobtaining a full banking license from the FCA. The funding round is led by IAG\nCapital Partners in the US, and its UK investment vehicle Silverstripe. Previously,\nZopa the first p2p lender to receive a conditional banking license<\/a> in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company\u2019s chief executive Jaidev Janardana\nnoted that the additional funding was needed to assuage the fears of UK regulators<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis\nnew funding means we have concluded the fundraising phase of our bank\nmobilization. Definitive agreements to provide the funding have been finalized\nand are subject to final approvals including regulatory change of control.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\ncontinue to hold our bank license with restrictions and are working closely\nwith the regulators to gain our full license. We are excited that once\napproved, Zopa will be able to launch its bank alongside its peer-to-peer\nbusiness and offer a broader set of products to our customers.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To date, Zopa has lent close to \u00a34 billion in\nthe UK, and was the first p2p lending company to receive an AAA rating<\/a> for its loan\noriginations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to Money&Co, p2p investors can now invest in music<\/a>. Money&Co\u2019s newest product will provide loans to music artists which are secured by their intellectual property rights. Money&Co is offering these investments at an interest rate of 6% over LIBOR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are\nin the process of building our litigation finance business and our music\nlending business. These are not strictly P2P areas, but can be offered to P2P\ninvestors and will be eligible for inclusion in the Innovative Finance ISA.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Power Ledger is at it again. This time, the\nAustralian p2p solar energy company has expanded its reach to India<\/a> where it has\nlaunched yet another pilot program alongside India power company UP Power\nCorporation Limited. Solar energy in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh will be\ntraded via the blockchain-powered p2p platform of Power Ledger. The first phase\nof the project could be completed as early as March, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Co-founder of Power Ledger, Jemma Green, noted how this project will play out<\/a>, and its\nimplications for the company\u2019s expansion:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Once\nthe scoping, planning and site selection has been completed and smart-metering\ninfrastructure deployed, Power Ledger will commence the configuration and\nfinalize trading logics for deployments of dynamic pricing Xgrid P2P energy\ntrading platform in consultation with all the key stakeholders.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Power\nLedger is continuing to scale our platform within Australia and\ninternationally, growing our technology in the NEM to help energy retailers\ngain access to a more efficient way of transferring energy through the existing\ngrid infrastructure.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company is also continuing its expansion\ndomestically in Australia. Power Ledger is being installed into apartment buildings in the suburbs of\nPerth<\/a>, where residents will share energy generation from solar\npower. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nine Chronicles<\/a>, a new multiplayer online\ngame, is set to be released on a\np2p blockchain network<\/a>. The game is being published on a p2p network\nso that it does not operate on a single centralized server, which can lead to\noutages and downtime. Additionally, if the original developers of the game\ncease their involvement, Nine Chronicles can continue moving forward in its own\ndevelopment. New versions of Nine Chronicles can even be created by developers\nwho fork the original open-source code of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kijun Seo, CEO of Planetarium, (the developer\nbehind Nine Chronicles) sees the open-source\nnature of the game<\/a> as paramount to its success:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While p2p games like Nine Chronicles do provide upgrades to centrally controlled games, they do come without their own limitations and question marks<\/a>. For instance, it is more difficult to combat cheating behavior and provide support for in-game purchases and other billing issues that arise when the network is decentralized and not controlled by a singular entity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
