Lauri has a realistic life motto: \u2018Disappointment is when reality doesn\u2019t meet expectations. I\u2019ve put a massive effort into understanding how the world functions and to continue to do so. As a result, I tend to have pretty realistic expectations, am good at accepting reality, and tend to be fairly happy because of it.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lauris\u2019s journey at Bondora:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s been a good journey \u2013 the people are lovely, and I\u2019m getting paid for doing something I\u2019m somewhat good at \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lauri\u2019s typical workday<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

My best moments are when I get to help someone, which works much better when I\u2019m in the office. My typical day consists of meetings, an email or two, and working on smaller tasks. I also write down a lot of things to leave work at the office every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s the most rewarding part of your job?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Helping people. I have no fear of asking \u2018How are you?\u2019 and getting an answer \ud83d\udcac<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And what makes being a developer at Bondora awesome?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s always a combination of things that sums up culture. Bondora has a good one \u2013 people actually refer their friends to apply for open positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did you find your way into the world of programming? What has the experience been like so far?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Oh boy\u2026 I first saw a computer\ud83d\udda5\ufe0f in middle school, in the late 80s, and ended up going to a high school that taught programming. I\u2019m actually not much of a builder; I much prefer debugging and fixing something that already exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best meme that sums up being a developer?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It depends\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SQL, because I\u2019m good at it \u2728<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is your best life advice?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Gym membership, gym bag, and several sets of clothes so that you can always have a bag ready at the door \ud83c\udfcb\ufe0f\u200d\u2642\ufe0f\ud83d\udc5f\ud83c\udf92<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best cybersecurity\/IT tip?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ask for help before you do something, not after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are some of your hobbies? What do you like to do in your free time?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

My longest-lasting hobby has been disc golf. Other things come and go, but it\u2019s always good to have a walk in the woods with a purpose \ud83d\udeb6\u200d\u2642\ufe0f\ud83c\udf32<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are your favorite games to play?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Definitely D&D. I used to run a couple of games before Covid, but it\u2019s been play-by-post only the last few years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which game have you clocked the most hours with on Steam?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

All of my computer gaming happened before Steam. I put about 10 years into various MMOs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bacon: yay or nay? <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Both. I\u2019ve opted out of buying pork\/beef for home consumption, but my favorite hotel breakfast food is pancakes with bacon \ud83e\udd5e\ud83e\udd53<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s your favorite TV show\/podcast?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We don\u2019t have a TV, but I watch Critical Role on Twitch every week (D&D live play) and follow a few people on YouTube. I\u2019m really into audiobooks, though, if that counts. I\u2019m alternating between non-fiction and fiction depending on how fresh I am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s your favorite kind of music (to listen to while programming)?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Indie folk-type stuff for just drowning out the office background \ud83c\udfb6 But if work needs to get done now,<\/em> then Britney Spears’\u2019Work Bitch\u2019 on a loop. It has never failed me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you have any pets?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m a cat person, but apparently, it\u2019s not reciprocal. Instead, I have five-year-old twins \ud83d\udc67\ud83d\udc67<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What superpower would you like to have and why?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Immortality. The world is going through insane changes right now, and I\u2019d love to be around for a very long time to see what comes next \u267e\ufe0f<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s something that you want to do but scares you?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Starting my own company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
